Maxine and family,
We are very saddened to hear about Rick’s passing, and our thoughts, sympathy and prayers are with y’all. I’ve known Rick since early 1981, when I joined Shell in New Orleans, and assigned to the onshore facilities group. Rick’s office was a few doors down the hall. Early in my career, Rick was a BIG mentor in educating and training me in high pressure onshore oil & gas facilities design, and general project management. His door was always open and willing to help anytime.
Our careers went in different directions in mid-80’s, and occasionally kept in touch. After I returned back to New Orleans from California in 1993, I got to work with Rick again on several projects in the Deepwater group. It was great to work with him again on the same project teams. After my transfer to Houston in 2002, we still stayed in touch, talking about families, the good old memories and the joys of retirement. He was a true technical professional, great character and of high integrity. One aspect of our friendship that brought some humor was when we greeted each other by our first names; I would tell him “hello Brother Lloyd”, and he would respond “hello Brother Claren”. Folks around us thought we were nuts!!
Another aspect of Rick that I remember well was his charismatic personality and style in telling stories. I still remember a few of them. He was one of a couple folks in my life that whilst telling his story, my stomach hurt and eyes crying from laughing so hard!! Rick had a special way of cheering up the group!
May you and family find peace, comfort and joy that Rick is with our Holy Father and Christ Jesus in heaven enjoying eternal peace. Through God’s grace and our faith in Christ, we will see him again! May God’s love and blessings be with y’all!!
