Judy Casamento Conaway's Obituary
Judy Casamento Conaway of Mandeville, LA died on Friday, April 3rd, 2026, surrounded by her sister and grandchildren. She was born on August 30th, 1941, in New Orleans, LA, to the late Vincent and Athalie Casamento. She grew up in New Orleans, LA, where she met the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Gene Raymond Conaway.
After graduating from Francis T. Nicholls High School in 1959, Judy and Gene got married on January 20th, 1961. They had their beautiful daughter Terry Lynn on November 13th, 1961. She worked for the Orleans Parish School Board for 20 years.
After retiring, she focused on helping raise her five grandchildren. She soon became known as Mams to anyone and everyone — to the point where very few of her grandchildren's friends knew her actual name was Judy. She loved her grandchildren with her whole heart, always supporting them, cheering them on, and feeding them. She'd help them with their homework, do carpool pickups, and make sure they woke up in time to get on the school bus. She was an amazing cook with dozens of iconic meals that friends and neighbors would come over just to enjoy.
Later, she would be called Mamsy by her adoring great-grandchildren. She loved each and every one. Her smile would light up the room when she saw her great-grandchildren walking toward her. Even after attending countless events and games for her grandchildren over the years, she continued attending her great-grandchildren's soccer games, school lunches, and even one of their births.
She is predeceased by her husband, Gene Conaway; daughter, Terry Meyer; and brothers, VJ Casamento and Stephen Casamento.
She is survived by her grandchildren: Ryan Meyer and wife Sarah, Matthew Meyer, Tyler Meyer and wife Ashley, Megan Meyer Lawrence and husband Michael, and Madeline Meyer and fiancé Cameron Ladner. She is also survived by her five great-grandchildren, Eleanor and Charlotte Meyer, Sadie Meyer, and Cooper and Magnolia Lawrence. Also surviving Judy are her brother, Tommy Casamento and wife Jeanne, and sister, Athie Casamento Bohnet and husband Richie.
