Herbert "Herbie" Eugene Joiner Jr.

Herbert "Herbie" Eugene Joiner, 68, of Covington, Louisiana, was called to his heavenly home on October 7, 2025. Born and raised in Covington, Herbie dedicated his life to serving others — first as a police officer, and later as a school bus driver. Through both roles, he touched countless lives with his steady presence and compassionate spirit. A man of many words, Herbie never met a stranger. He had the unique ability to make anyone feel seen, heard, and welcomed. He was known for his generosity, humor, and unwavering dedication to those he loved. Loyal, loving, and dependable, Herbie was a pillar of strength to his family, friends, and community. Herbie is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Charlotte Diane Keating Joiner; his beloved children, Joshua Eugene Joiner (Aukse), Justin Eugene Joiner (Allison), and Jeffry Eugene Joiner (Brittany); and his eight cherished grandchildren: Mathias, Benji, Cooper, Selah, Capri, Luca, Cross, and Reese. Being “Pawpaw” was the role he treasured most. He is also survived by his siblings, Howie (Shannon) Joiner and Shari (Johnny) Lewis; brothers-in-law Rodney (Karen) Keating and Randall (Leslie) Keating; sister-in-law Linda (Glenn) Fussell; and numerous nieces and nephews. The Joiner Family wishes to give a special acknowledgment to Jessica Taylor for her years of dedicated service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Faye and Herbert Joiner; his mother-in-law, Dottie Keating; his father-in-law, R.T. Keating; and his brother, Jimmy "JJ" Joiner. Herbie’s legacy of kindness, faith, and genuine connection will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the meal ministries of New Zion Baptist Church, St. Benedict Catholic Church, or Fitzgerald United Methodist Church, whose weekly lunch ministry was a meaningful blessing to Herbie and Charlotte over the last few years. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services at New Zion Baptist Church, 17387 New Zion Baptist Church Road, Covington LA 70435 on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 11:30 AM with visitation at church on Saturday beginning at 10:00 AM.
