Louis Farrell Crane

Louis Farrell Crane, beloved and devoted husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at the age of 76. Louis is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Judith Frenzel Crane, his three children, Louis Farrell Crane, Jr. and spouse Sandra Crane, Emily Crane Becker and spouse Brian Becker, and Ryan Edward Crane and spouse Michelle Crane, and eight grandchildren, Theodore Edward Crane, Jonathan Reece Becker, Claire Diane Crane, Zoe Dominique Crane, Colin Edward Crane, Owen Everett Becker, Ian Edward Crane and Cate Addison Crane. Louis is also survived by his cherished only brother, Paul Edward Crane and his spouse Heike Crane. Born in a farmhouse outside Richmond, Mississippi to the late Myrtle Gilbert Crane and Edward Louis Crane, Louis rose from his humble beginnings to live a life of remarkable accomplishment and uncompromising love and sacrifice for his family. Louis began his career as an athlete, drafted by the Chicago Cubs organization upon graduation from high school. He went on to earn both college and masters degrees while working to raise his young family. Louis’ over 50 year business career spanned across a wide range of international business, culminating on the founding of Orleans Capital Management, where he served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. Prior to forming Orleans Capital in 1991, Louis was Vice President and Senior Fixed Income Manager at Hibernia National Bank in New Orleans, overseeing more than $2 billion in discretionary fixed income assets. He also served as Chief Investment Officer for Columbia Universal Corporation and for Great Southern Life Insurance Company. His career accomplishments were not limited to the investment business, as Louis served in a number of prominent positions in the energy industry including: • CFO and CEO of Daniel Industries ( now part of Emerson Electric). Daniel was the world’s largest supplier of equipment used to measure oil and gas. Daniel’s activites included geophysics, pipeline valves and gas life valves. Projects included the tanker loading facilities in Ras Tanura and Yanbu in Saudi Arabia, Das Island in Abu Dhabi, Kuwait and numerous other facilities around the world. • CEO of Gulf Applied Technologies, now Gulfmark Offshore. Gulf Applied included Gulf Interstate Engineering, one of the largest pipeline construction companies in the world. • CEO of Energy Ventures Inc. While CEO, Louis launched an initiative to convert the company into an oil service company which ultimately became Weatherford EVI, one of the largest oil service companies in the world. • CEO of Offshore Logistics, the largest supplier of helicopter services to the global energy industry. Louis also served on the board of directors of nine public and private corporations. He has been president and chief executive officer of two publicly held corporations traded on the New York stock exchange. He also served on a special advisory committee for Loyola University School of Business. A chartered financial analyst, Louis attended the University of Houston and received a Master’s of Business Administration from Mississippi College. During the later stages of his business career, Louis turned his passion to golf and enjoyed the opportunity to travel among the great golf courses of the world to play and walk with his wife and children. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433 on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at 11:00 AM with visitation on Wednesday beginning at 9:00 AM.
