January 24, 1947 - April 15, 2022
Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and servant of God, Janet Scanlan McIntyre, left this earth to join her Heavenly Father on Good Friday, April 15, 2022 after a brief illness. Jan is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, William Michael McIntyre, Sr.; their children, Jennifer (Scott) LeBlanc, Michael (Brandy) McIntyre, Jr., Katherine (Jason) Colgin and Elizabeth (Jacob) Daigle; and her sister, Mary (John) Jeansonne. She also leaves her eleven precious grandchildren in whose mouths the word “Granny” is a treasured and holy word. Born January 24, 1947 in Crowley, Louisiana, Jan was the beloved youngest child of Howard Vincent Scanlan and Lucy Duhon Scanlan. After graduating from Dominican College in New Orleans, she set out on an adventure as a flight attendant for Delta Airlines. On a fateful flight from Atlanta to New York City, she met and fell in love with Mike McIntyre and they began their life together on January 9, 1971. Settling in Shreveport, Louisiana in 1987, they raised their four children and became a beautiful example of fidelity and love. Jan was a Catholic school educator who shaped many young hearts and minds at Loyola College Prep as the sophomore religion teacher for many years in Shreveport, LA. She was instrumental in bringing young people to Christ through her dedication and devotion. As a spouse, mother and grandmother, she was a source of joy, and a beacon of light, who enriched the spirits and nurtured the souls of her husband, children and grandchildren. Generous with laughter, faithful in prayer, she loved to be surrounded by her family and holidays were always a beautiful cacophony of voices laughing, and enjoying one another. This was her bliss. In her retirement, she enjoyed her family, her beautiful gardens and her home in Covington, Louisiana. Hers was a life well lived, an example of love and service, family and faith. She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Carl Scanlan; and her sister, Barbara Duhon Klein. Memorials are encouraged to be sent to the Discalced Carmelite Nuns Monastery of Mary Mother of Grace, 1250 Carmel Way, Lafayette, LA 70501. Visitation will be Monday, April 18, 2022 from 4:30 pm - 6:30pm with a Rosary at 6:00 pm at EJ Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Avenue, Covington, LA.
