Joyce Lee Dickinson Suter

Joyce Lee Dickinson Suter, at the age of 84, entered eternal rest peacefully on Wednesday, morning, October 26, 2022, at her daughter Lauryn’s family home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 27, 1938, to Arthur Lee Dickinson and Marguerite Sheasby Dickinson. She is survived by her loving children Steven Michael Suter (Deleen), Brian Allen Suter (Amanda), and Lauryn Suter Mercier (Lance). Joyce was the proud grandmother of Kaleigh Burns Loup (Austin), Gabrielle Elizabeth Burns, Benjamin Thomas Burns, Samantha Lee Suter, Caroline Elise Suter, and Zachary Brian Suter, and devoted great grandmother of Brody Loup. Joyce is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and wonderful lifelong friends. Joyce was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years Allen David Suter, her parents Arthur Lee Dickinson and Marguerite Sheasby Dickinson, and her brother Arthur Lee Dickinson Jr. (Laura). Joyce was born in Chicago and at the age of 5, the family moved and became permanent residents of New Orleans. She graduated from McDonogh 35 High School in New Orleans, Louisiana. After high school, she attended Southeastern Louisiana University. Joyce was very active in her sorority and was crowned the White Rose Queen by her sorority sisters in 1959. While at Southeastern, she met Allen and the two quickly became inseparable. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Southeastern and she and Allen were married shortly afterwards. They moved to Metairie, Louisiana and after starting their family, she went back to school at the University of New Orleans, where she completed studies for her master’s degree in Early Childhood Education. Joyce taught in many New Orleans schools before joining the staff at St. John’s Lutheran School, where she taught for over 25 years. Allen and Joyce lived in Metairie for over 30 years and relocated to Mandeville shortly after hurricane Katrina in 2005. Joyce was loving, compassionate, and most of all a very caring person to all. The thing that made her truly happy was spending time with and being surrounded by her loving family. Joyce was unique and irreplaceable, well respected by all who knew her. She will be deeply and dearly missed by all who loved her. Her spirit and tender nature will remain in the many memoires of her cherished family, friends and her adoring students.
