Ian Anderson

As dawn was breaking on Saturday the 24th of March, Ian Anderson passed away peacefully in his Covington home with family members by his side. He had just celebrated his 77th birthday. He is survived by his devoted wife of almost 45 years, “Buddy” Noel nee Briggs; by his loving daughters, Catriona Anderson and Sonja DeMarco; by his adoring grandchildren, Elsie DeMarco and Anderson DeMarco; and by his youngest sister, Alison Denny. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Mary Anderson; by his parents Fergus and Elsie Marie Larratt Anderson; and by his sister, Jeannie Vio. Ian had an interesting childhood. He grew up in Europe, living mostly in Italy and being included in the motor bike racing world of Motto Guzzi from a very young age which ignited an appreciation for cars and motorbikes as well as a love of speed and adventure. He attended school in several European countries which nurtured an appreciation for culture, food, and language; he was fluent in six languages and dabbled in several more. In his late teens, under the guidance of his grandfather, he started working in the dredging industry in England. That career led him to complete a Sloan Fellowship at London Business School. During his career, he lived and worked in many countries in Africa, the Middle East, Europe, the Far East, the Arctic, South America, Central America, and North America. Despite so much travel, he called Louisiana his home for half his life and settled his family here. The spicy, flavorful food and ideal golfing weather suited him well. It was certainly difficult to be isolated from family around the world, primarily in Australia, England, and Italy. However, we have been blessed with wonderful friends here who have welcomed us, included us, celebrated with us, supported us, and mourned with us just as true family does for one another. True to his nature, Ian fought with all he had. His family is grateful for the excellent care and kindness of the medical staff at Ochsner and St. Tammany Parish Hospital, the love and encouragement of all his rehabilitation crews who have helped him so much in these last five years, and to Hospice for their care and support in helping Ian and his family find peace in his final days. Relatives and friends are invited to the Memorial Service at Christ Episcopal Church, 129 N New Hampshire St., Covington, LA 70433 on Tuesday, April, 3, 2018 at 11:00 AM.
