B. "Roy" Kellum

B. “Roy” Kellum passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at the age of 77. He was born in Laurel, Mississippi, on October 14, 1946 to Lola and J.C. Kellum. He is survived by his loving wife, Rhetta; his children, Brian A. Kellum (Demetress), Keith W. Kellum, & Ronnie R. Kellum (Patricia Mahoney); his step-children, Lori A. Levy (Danny), Jaye A. Hebert (Karen), Jodi L. Bordelon (Riley); his brothers & sisters Barbara Willingham, David Kellum Sr. (Donna), Paul Kellum (Mary), Jack Kellum (Kim), Bobby Kellum (Cindy), Lola Baudoin (Lester). He is also survived by his many grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and wonderful lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Cynthia Wilson Kellum, his brother James “Calvin” Kellum (Hilda), and sister Diane Wilson. A native and proud resident of Loranger, Louisiana for over 20 years, Roy graduated from Fortier High School, in New Orleans, Louisiana. On February 1, 1966, he showed great commitment to our country, and joined the United States Army, serving in the Vietnam War, earning the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Metal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, and his proudly earned Purple Heart. On January 31, 1972, he was honorably discharged, having earned the rank of Sergeant, and began his civilian career. Roy’s chosen professional path was in store materials in a supervisor position, at a public utility company. Roy was successful and well respected as an avid gun collector and hunter from New Orleans to Northshore area. Roy was loving, compassionate, and most of all a very caring person to all. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, practicing archery and hunting. He was an avid and dedicated veteran, with involvement in the Military Order of the Purple Heart, American Legion Post 16, and the Vietnam Veterans of Louisiana. However, his true passion was spending time with his loving family and friends. Roy was unique and irreplaceable, well respected and liked, and will be deeply and dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. His spirit and tender nature will remain in the many memoires of his cherished friends and family until they meet him again. .
